Research Program

Priority Medicines

Our research projects are, for a large part, focused on research that is difficult or impossible for individual companies to perform. Our research portfolio is based on the disease areas as specified in Priority Medicines, a report by the World Health Organization (WHO). These projects create knowledge that is important for better, faster and less-expensive development of valuable new medicines. Within TI Pharma's project portfolio, there is a special focus on neglected diseases.

The key objectives of the report are to establish a public health-based pharmaceutical research and development agenda, and to help close the gap between public health needs and the developmental priorities of the pharmaceutical industry. A gap can be identified as those diseases of public health importance for which pharmacotherapy either does not exist or is inadequate. In the report, the WHO has identified a number of research gaps in specific therapeutic indications. TI Pharma devotes special attention to these gaps in its research portfolio.
