Our vision and strategic perspective
The highly innovative pharmaceutical sector is extremely important to the Dutch economy. Leading national and international pharmaceutical companies with research and development and/or production facilities are located in the Netherlands, and successful start-up companies have recently been founded. Despite the fact that knowledge institutes in the Netherlands are conducting world-class research in selected areas, the research is scattered over many organizations.
Efficiency can be gained by bundling, focusing and intensifying the cooperation between universities and industry as well as between academic research centers.
There is also a pressing need to develop a comprehensive and coherent research agenda that brings together innovative drug research and industrial interests within the general framework of the public health objectives.
The creation of TI Pharma will enable the Dutch knowledge infrastructure to meet the industrial demands to reduce the 'time- & cost-to-patient' by increasing the total research capacity on important themes and by improving the efficiency and efficacy of the research that is carried out.
The latter effect is the result of a unique steering mechanism, functioning as a matrix organization, for the research activities of TI Pharma. This will lead to a focused research approach with minimal overlap of research activities and a strong impulse towards industrial application of the knowledge that is created.
